Revive M.D. Direct Primary Care’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Payal Jhawar, is a Board-Certified Internal Medicine Physician and a member of the American College of Physicians. She grew up in a small town in rural Connecticut and completed her Bachelor’s degree at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
She went on to pursue her career in medicine by attending St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada. After earning her M.D., Dr. Jhawar moved to Springfield, Massachusetts and completed her Internal Medicine Residency program at Baystate Medical Center, a Tufts University program.
She and her husband then moved to Connecticut, and Dr. Jhawar started her primary care career at Hartford Healthcare Medical Group in 2013. While they enjoyed their time in New England, they decided to move to sunny Florida at the end of 2015.
Dr. Jhawar joined Manatee Physician Alliance in Lakewood Ranch and spent 4 years providing primary care to the local community. She became an advocate for patients and physicians by being a part of the Physician Advisory Committee. As a result, she was the recipient of the Wellmed Exceptional Patient Care Award and Top Internist in 2020.
Although Dr. Jhawar cherished the trust patients placed in her as their physician, she became increasingly frustrated with administrators valuing rushed visits with greater volume of patients and insurance companies dictating medical decision making. Therefore, she decided to make a change in 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. She has spent more than a year providing medical care through telemedicine and has appreciated the value of virtual care. She has positively impacted patients across the country by encouraging them to take charge of their physical and mental well-being through exercise and food as medicine.
Dr. Jhawar believes primary care physicians, who genuinely listen to and take time to understand their patients can prevent medical complications, frequent hospitalizations and unnecessary testing. Since insurance companies and corporate administrators have created too many barriers to her vision of quality primary care, Dr. Jhawar decided to combine her experience in telemedicine with her passion for patient-centered, affordable primary care by opening Revive MD Direct Primary Care in Bradenton, Florida. She is hoping to restore and rebuild patient-doctor relationships through modern medicine.
Dr. Jhawar lives in Bradenton with her husband, daughter and son. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, Zumba, Indian dancing, creating healthy recipes in the kitchen, playing tennis, spending time with her family and exploring new restaurants.
